a hug for my main squeeze

Patrick and I ran away recently, just a weekend, just the two of us, no dogs or anything. Even the cat was forced to stay home (haha). We had a smashing visit to the Sea Lion Caves (where we indeed saw the Sea Lions, very cool) and where I nearly broke my neck on the slippery rocks surrounding Devil's Churn in the pouring rain. We didn't make plans in advance and by 8 pm on a Saturday night in Florence, OR we needed a place to stay. Even the Best Western was over-priced for a single night in December so we drove up and down the street looking at various places, judging their sketchiness, calling their office and basing decisions on the demeanor at the front desk, we even spent some time in a parking lot using pirated wireless trying to find a place to stay on travel websites. We finally found a tacky bizarre little place, where the sweat-pants and stained Betty Boop t-shirt wearing owner was actually friendly, if not a bit odd, and for $50 we decided hell with it. We opted for the more expensive room which had been "remodeled" and resembled a retirement home from hell. But the carpet was new, the mattress was new, the decor was simply...craft show chic. But we were warm and dry and had a recommendation for a local restaurant, so it worked for a night. Hell, if forced to we'd stay there again for the price. : )
We also visited Hug Point so I could see a waterfall at the ocean. I always like photos I take of Patrick while we're out. This one is really cool, thanks to the peephole I caught a lot of the scenery.
I am desperately wanting to get out of the house and get my film developed from Devil's Churn (where I also got splashed by a rogue wave, they aren't kidding when they tell you to watch your ass there) and from the Gorge this week.
I am also desperately wanting it to be January 13th already, so I can try to face another year. I need a job. I need the holidays to pass. I need the 12th to pass. I need a job, did I mention that? I need a new camera. I need to stop worrying and being so damned needy, before poor Patrick smothers me with a pillow.
So, as he liked this shot a great deal, and as I had a cute title for it, this one is for him. For putting up with me. And for putting up with the smell of sea-lion shit so I could see an Oregon tourist trap. And for putting up with buying a third pair of swim trunks, only to stay at a place without a pool. And for putting up with my dogs, who sometimes, like tonight, have vile, room clearing gas. He tries to blame it on me, but if I could clear a room like that I'd wear it like a badge of honor. It's really that impressive!
Anyway, to my Patrick, to our first holiday season together...hugs and kisses. : )

Roo Rohan

Halloween season is a good time of year for my nephew - his mom Jane has a great eye for costumes, which she seems to conjure from thin thrifty air, and if wee Rohan does not perhaps understand the context of the dress-up game, he still loves the attention he gets when he wears them. And he always looks adorable when he gets them on.

So I've seen him as tiger, as pirate, as doggy, and now, at this chilly rainy-day Fall Kids Fest at Madison Square Park, he's a kangaroo.

Which is completely appropriate, as he flies back to his home in Sydney the next day, after a month-long visit with the New York wing of his family. In the meantime, there's a pumpkin patch and Halloweeny decor, and little people in costumes as far as the eye can see.
